26. Michael catches Madesha

CHAPTER 26

Michael catches Madesha

          Madesha was going by bike through the village road to his house. Five motor bikes overtook him and stopped in front of him. Madesha was forced to stop. Michael and four men surround Madesha and hit him. Blood oozes out of Madesha’s body.

Madesha was scared. He folded his hands. “I will return double the amount you gave as advance. You can take my bike also. But please leave me alone.”

Michael approached Madesha and put his hand on his back. “The entry to this field is like a river entering the ocean. There is not return.”

Michael looked at the four men. All of them lifted the swords they had. Madesha shivered with fear.

Michael said, “Here only the mind works and not heart. We all don’t have hearts.”

          Michael made Madesha stand in front of Blade Kumar. Men with swords were standing all around. Madesha stood in front of Blade like a lamb in front of slaughterer.

Blade showed a sword. “If I hit you, you will stop breathing. But I don’t want that. I want that Churi to stop breathing. You are new. That Churi has seen all my men. He will recognise them. That is why I have selected you for the job.”

Madesha stared at Blade with fear.

“Churi has not seen Michael but I don’t want to give him that job since he is my top adviser. His mind is as sharp as the sword. See how easily he has trapped you.”

Michael was happy. “Brother, you don’t worry. I will handle this fellow and finish that Churi.”

He looked at Madesha. “If you do this job, you will get another 5 thousand and a promotion. Also, you want to become police, isn’t it? You will become their close friend.”

“Fix a good time and put a point on that Churi. Till that time, this fellow can remain in the room downstairs.” Said Blade.

Michael nodded. “Madesha, you don’t worry. You will get biryani three times a day. At night, you will get one full bottle. This field is of that type.”

He moved close to Madesha and whispered in his ear, “Now you are zero. If you kill that Churi, you will become a hero in this field.”

Madesha was sitting in a dark room with his hands on his head. Michael had taken his mobile. It started ringing. Michael looked at the number. “It says Maestri. Your brother is calling. Talk to him. But if you tell anything about us, you will lose not hands or legs but your tongue.”

Madesha took the mobile with fear and pressed the button to receive the call.

“Madesha, how was the exam?”

“I have written well, brother.”

Maestri was happy. “You will definitely get first class. I know.”

“Guarantee. Four papers are remaining.”

Maestri was sad. “In that case you will not be able to attend the fair. No problem. If you need any money, just tell me your location. I will come personally and give you money.”

Madesha was shocked. “No brother. I have enough money. I will return as soon as the exam is over.”

The call got cut off. Michael immediately took back the mobile. Madesha sat with his hands on his head.

Michael put his hand on Madesha’s back. “First stage is always like this. In the second stage you will be giving courage to others like me.”

25. Madesha is shocked to hear about job

Madesha is shocked to hear about job

Michael got a phone call from Blade Kumar. “Michael, four men from Churi gang have been put in jail by the police. Because of this Churi gang has become weak.”

Michael said seriously, “This is a good time to put a point on that Churi. We must not miss this chance.”

“I have found out that he visits the daba outside the village with two of his men for drink. After drink, they fall drunk inside that old hut in the top of the nearby hill. He thinks no one knows about that hideout. We can put a point on him there.”

“I will put my plan in action immediately.”

          Michael and Madesha were drinking in a bar. Seeing Madesha drinking heavily, Michael said, “Don’t drink too much.”

“Exams are starting tomorrow. I have to at least touch my books a bit. That is why this limit.”

“That job I have given you has started. That is why I told you not to drink too much.”

Madesha was shocked. “What job do I have in this bar?”

Michael pointed to a group of people. “See there. Just observe that man sitting in the middle.”

Madesha looked in that direction. “That man with beard and a muffler around his neck?”

“Yes. Your job will start with that man. Have you looked at him carefully?”

“Yes.”

“Ok. Now get up. Boss will tell you the details about the job.”

Blade Kumar gave a jerkin to Madesha. “You must wear this.”

Madesha was surprised. “Why this jerkin?”

Blade said seriously, “I have given you five thousand as advance. Your job has started. You must just listen and obey. No questions.”

Madesha got scared at the serious tone. He looked at Michael.

“Madesha, this is field work. You have taken advance. Now you have to walk in the direction shown by boss. First you wear the jerking. He will tell you what to do next”

Michael helped Madesha wear the jerking. Madesha was feeling scared.

“Did you observe that bearded man in the bar carefully?” Asked Blade.

Madesha nodded.  Blade removed a sword from below the bed. Madesha got scared.

Blade placed the sword in front of Madesha. “Michael will tell you how to hide and use this. He will train you.”

Michael shivered with fear. He looked at Michael. “I don’t understand.”

Blade looked at Michael. “Didn’t you explain the job to him?”

“He is new to the field. If I had told him about the job before itself, he would not have touched the advance. Now he cannot escape. You tell him about the job.”

“Ok. This Michael will take you to one place. He will point out the bearded man. You have to just go quietly and pierce this sword into his back. That’s all.”

Madesha is shocked. He stood with folded hands. “I have never done such a job. I have never even hit anyone. That day, for the first time, I hit Mallesha. Whole night I couldn’t sleep.”

Blade became serious. “We were also afraid when we first entered the field. This sword makes one scared. But when you hold it in your hand, it gives you courage.  Soon all this will become common.”

Michael hid the sword behind the jerkin.

Blade said, “Now you are double safe. Michael, finish him off tonight itself. Then bring this fellow back safely.”

Madesha got up feeling very scared.

Blade said, “That sword has already given you strength. With that, if you put one peg inside, your act will be completely different.”

Blade went into the room to bring drinks. Madesha thought this was a good chance and ran outside. He climbed on to his bike and left in high speed.

Michael was shocked. He thought, “How far will you go?”

Blade came back with drinks. “If he does not kill Churi, we will take off his hands and legs. Don’t let him escape. Take some men with you.”

Michael smiled crookedly. “Where will he go? He knows only two places. His house and my room. I will catch him and beat him up.”

24. Maestri questions Madesha

CHAPTER 24

Maestri questions Madesha

          When Madesha came home in the evening, Maestri confronted him with questions. “Madesha someone told me that you are not attending college properly.”

Madesha was shocked. “Who told you all these lies? It is 2 months since they stopped attendance in college. And it is one month since all studies got over. What is the use of wasting time in the college? That is why I am doing combined study with my friends.”

Sakamma and Ganga were observing all this. Sakamma said seriously, “You are roaming around with that playboy Michael?”

Madesha got angry. “That Michael comes first in everything in college. He speaks in English at home. I attended English medium only after 10^th but because of him, I can speak in English very well now. He is very clever that is why I am doing combined study with him in his room.”

Maestri was shocked. “Don’t feel bad Madesha. I just want you to study hard and pass in the exam. I want you to become police officer.”

“Brother, my exams are starting tomorrow. I will stay in Michael’s room and study. I will sleep there. He is going to give me part time job after the exams are over. I can do that till I get police job. I will never be a burden to you again.”

Maestri had tears in his eyes. “Even though you are young, your thoughts are of a grown up man. From tomorrow, you will be staying there, isn’t it? Tell me how much you want for expenses. I will tell mother to give.”

Sakamma said, “We just want you to get good job. All that he earned, he has put on you. Mallesha told him about you that is why he asked. But you are refuting every. God know who is right.”

Madesha became serious. He thought angrily, “So it is the job of that Mallesha.”

He went out of the house and took out his mobile. “Michael, my classmate Mallesha told about us to my brother.”

Michael got very angry. “He knows only how to complain. But we know how to blast his body. Bring him to my room tomorrow. I will finish him.”

“Ok. I will make a plan and bring him to you.”

In the evening, Madesha brought Mallesha to Michael’s room. Michael started hitting him right and left angrily.

Mallesha was shocked. “Why are you hitting me? What have I done?”

Madesha said angrily, “Why did you go to my house and tell my brother about us?”

He hits Mallesha.

“I was sad to see you drinking with Michael. I wanted you to come to the right path.”

“So you think that you are on the right path and we are on the wrong path, is it?”

“Your brother Maestri has so many dreams on you.”

Madesha looked at Michael and said, “Michael, he told everyone that you are a playboy.”

Michael got very angry. “I will show him what I am.”

He went on hitting Mallesha again and again. Blood started oozing from Mallesha’s face. Madesha got scared. He tried to pull Michael away from Mallesha. “Michael, enough. He will die.”

“You stopped me. Otherwise I would have killed him and buried him tonight.”

Madesha looked at Michael seriously. He took out his kerchief and wiped Mallesha’s face. “Sorry Mallesha. I got angry because you told Maestri about me. But I did not mean to get you beaten up like this.”

Michael got angry with Madesha. “I tried to help you by hitting this fellow and you are now going against me. You are making me a bad boy. You both are from the same village, that’s why.”

Madesha kept quiet. Mallesha got up. Madesha gave him water to drink. But Mallesha refused. “I don’t want. You have done enough.”

Madesha folded his hands. “Please forgive me. Please don’t tell anyone. If my brother comes to know....”

Mallesha goes out with tears in his eyes.

23. Vasanti tells Maestri about Madesha

Vasanti tells Maestri about Madesha

          Maestri entered Vasanti’s house in the evening as promised. Vasanti brought one plate full of bajji (fried stuff). Maestri sat on the cot.

Keeping the plate in front of him, Vasanti said, “Hot hot bajji. Just put them into your mouth. They will melt.”

“Don’t talk with double meaning. You are like bajji.”

“Just put the bajji into your mouth and then take me in your arms. You can then compare both and see which is more hot and tasty.”

Maestri laughed and put a bajji into his mouth. He stared at her and said, “It is very tasty. I feel like eating it daily.”

Vasanti laughed and pointed to her neck. “Just tie the mangalasutra. I will give you whatever you want for 24 hours a day.”

Maestri looked at Vasanti’s chest. “I will eat now itself like this hot bajji. But what to do? I am waiting for Madesha to become a police officer.”

Vasanti went into the bedroom and returned with her hands at her back. “I wanted to give you something.”

Maestri looked at her from top to bottom. “I thought you will give only after the marriage.”

Vasanti extended her closed palm in front of Maestri. “I will show you if you promise not to get angry with me.”

Maestri shook his head. Vasanti opened her palm. There was a packet in her palm. Maestri took it and opened it. “What is this?”

“Earrings for Ganga.”

“Vasanti, why did you purchase? I was planning to purchase anyway.”

“You are our leader, our saviour. You keep helping everyone. I am yours. Can’t I help you? Please don’t refuse.”

Maestri looked at her with pride. He hugs her happily. “Madesha is writing final exam just now.  I am sure that he will pass. He will become a police officer in 6 months. Then we can get married. Then we can always be close to each other.”

Vasanti moved away. “I have to tell you something about Madesha. Mallesha told me.”

Maestri was shocked. “What did he say?”

“Madesha does not attend college. And he is roaming around with a playboy named Michael.”

Maestri bit his teeth. “What are you saying? If this is true, I will peel his skin.”

Seeing his angry, Vasanti went and held him. “I know that you are very much attached to him. You are sacrificing everything for him. You have so many dreams about him. What I told may be true and may be false. After all Mallesha and Madesha are not best friends. Please be cool.”

Maestri took up his phone. “Madesha where are you?”

Madesha was drinking with Michael in his room. He was shocked to hear his brother’s voice. “Brother, I am doing combined study.”

Maestri believed him and felt relieved. “Ok. Come home early today. I want to talk to you.”

Cutting off the call, Maestri looked at Vasanti. “He is dong combined study.”
