Varada agrees to marry Mohini to Brahmam

          Varada and his daughter Mohini entered Brahmam’s shop in great style. Brahmam was reading Chandamama stories as usual. He stopped reading the book and got up happily. “Uncle.”

“Don’t call me uncle. I am Yedu’s uncle. Do you know why I have come to your shop? To get new clothes for my daughter.”

Yedu was very happy. He put some good clothes in front of Mohini for selection. “You can select any sari you like. But leave the selection of blouse to me. I will take measurement and stitch them for you personally.”

Mohini started selecting.

Brahmam got angry at Yedu. He thought, “When I had reduced the dowry by 50 thousand, this man had agreed. But now it looks like something is wrong.”

Yedu put the selected clothes in front of Brahmam.

Brahmam listed the items and said, “10,000 rupees.”

But Varada did not remove his purse to pay. He just pointed to Yedu. “You can cut the amount from his salary. And then come to their marriage to bless the couple.”

Yedu was shocked. But Brahmam laughed crookedly. He looked at Varada and said, “If you marry your daughter to me, I will give you these clothes for free.”

Varada thought for a while and calculated the amount in his mind. Then he said, “Still I will be in a loss. I will have to give you 40,000 rupees. This fellow is ready to get married without dowry.”

Brahmam put the clothes bag into Varada’s hand. “This is for free. Also, I am now ready to marry your daughter like him without dowry. You just need to get her married to me in a slightly grand way.”

Mohini and Yedu were sitting with hands on eachother’s shoulder. Seeing this, Varada got very angry. “Don’t touch her. I have taken a new decision. This fellow is getting married without dowry and with gift.  He is the best.”

Mohini started crying. “Dad, you are making a big mistake regarding me. I have already given my heart to this fellow.”

Varada became serious. “No problem. You can give your heart to him. You can love him. But you will marry Brahmam and have a family with him.”

Brahmam approached Mohini. “No problem. You can give your heart to him and love him. But you marry me and live with me.”

Mohini cried. Yedu went to her and tried to wipe her tears.

Varada got angry. “I will not allow you to touch her. If you touch her, I will not keep quiet.”

Yedu looked at Mohini and said, “Please don’t cry, darling.”

He turned to Varada. “Uncle, he wants a grand marriage. I don’t want a grand marriage. You need not invite anyone.  I will arrange all that.  You just come and bless us.”

Varada was shocked. The balance had tipped again towards Yedu. Varada moved towards Yedu and said, “I think you are the best.”

Brahmam immediately approached Varada and said, “I will give you fifty thousand. I will marry her.”

Yedu was not going to give up. “I will sell my house and give you fifty thousand.”

Looking at Varada, Brahmam said, “I will allow you to sit at the cash couter of my shop from now on. I will marry your daughter and remain like your servant at the shop and house.”

Yedu was shocked. Mohini started crying loudly.

Varada was very happy. He said to Brahmam, “You have won my daughter. You can marry my daughter.”

Brahmam was very happy. “Uncle, you can sit at the cash counter now itself. I will take up the job of this fellow.”

He looked at Yedu. “You are dismissed.”

Yedu became serious. “You can marry her, no problem. But I will make sure that you will never get the chance to give her the final touch in this life time.”

Mohini was excited to hear this. Yedu approached her and said something in her ear. Then he said loudly, “Don’t tell this secret to anyone. I will attend the marriage. I will give you a presentation.”
