39. Maestri gives complaint to CI

CHAPTER 39
Maestri gives complaint to CI

Ashok Kumar was sitting in the police station. Maestri came with Gowda, Yedu and four other men.

CI smiled. “Come Maestri. What is the matter?”

All sat down.

CI looked at Maestri. “Already there is a small talk about you in the field and also in this police station.”

Maestri was shocked. “Sir, I have never done such a job. Not a single man has put his leg in the police station till today. But due to the mistake committed by my brother, I am now forced to put my leg here.”

CI Ashok laughed. “That has made me know such a great man like you. It is all for the good.”

Gowda gave an application. “Sir, rowdies had come to our village with swords to kill Madesha. Due to that god and Maestri.........”

Ashok looked at Maestri with pride. “I know. Our Maestri hit them like a hero hits villains in a film. Those rowdies are now admitted in the hospital with broken bones. It will take then at leat 6 months to get discharged. But they got admitted saying that they had jeep accident.”

Gowda was surprised. “How do you know all this?”

“Our Maestri’s punch has become talk of the town today. Everyone in the field is shocked. There is excitement in the police station. Maestri, you look like an illiterate villager. But looking at the punhes you gave, it looks like you have learnt Kungfu.”

Maestri laughed. “I don’t know sir. But I cannot tolerate injustice. They came with swords to kill my brother.”
He told CI what happened.

CI got very angry. “Bastards. They know how to make use of innocent people for their job. When I was an encounter specialist, I used to finish off such people. But what to do.”
He looked at the application given by Gowda. “Looking at the background of the men admitted in the hospital, I am sure that they belong to Chakri’s gang. He is a big don. He has political backing. He has committed 10 murders and gone to jail 10 times. But each time, he comes out due to lack of witness. This is their time.”

Maestri became serious. “Please don’t let them escape this time. Take action.”

Ashok became desperate. “As soon as I arrest them and put them in jail, I get phone calls from MLAs and ministers asking me why I did so. If I ignore them, I get phone call from my own boss who is under their control. If I ignore my boss too, these rowdies get bail with the help of lawyers. I get transferred to another place. I will do my best. But I feel that due to the punches given by you, they will not turn to look towards your village.”

Maestri got up and said, “Thank you sir.”

“But be careful not to send your brother to the city.”

“Sure sir.”
